Property Description

The Boutique Guest House for People and Planes – Mudgee
Mudgee is the second oldest settlement west of the Blue Mountains, following Bathurst. It has a population of around 8500, and a total regional population of 23,000. Nestled in beautiful hillsides on the western slopes of the Great Dividing Range, known as the Central Tablelands of New South Wales, Australia.

Mudgee is a comfortable three and a half hour drive beyond the Blue Mountains (260km) north west of Sydney or four hours from Newcastle, or a 50 minute flight from Sydney.

The Mudgee valley was discovered in 1821 and has from those early days been recognised for its fertile valleys, diverse soil types and climate. The township of Mudgee was established in 1838 and the town also grew in population as a result of two historic gold rushes at nearby Gulgong and Hill End in the early 1870’s.

There is still spot gold to be found fossicking amongst the rivers and creeks. The regional beauty has tempted many artists to live here including several internationally recognised painters, potters, sculptors and musicians.

MUDGEE WINE

The Mudgee region is home to over 50 well known vineyards and wineries that provide a wide range of specialty boutique red and white wines, many with cellar door and wine tasting available. Nestled in gentle hillsides of the western slopes of the Great Dividing Range, Mudgee provides the perfect conditions for vineyards with warm days, cool nights and fertile soil. The earliest plantings were established by Roth family vignerons in the 1850’s. Roths’ Wine Bar still holds the oldest operating license in NSW. Mudgee wineries celebrate September with a Wine & Food Festival which provides an enormous amount of events and entertainment and attracts many visitors.

MUDGEE MINES

In the last few years, mining has again become a substantial industry player and there is a new influx of families relocating. Coal mining in the Mudgee region is growing rapidly. The main mining activity is around a 40 minute drive north from Mudgee, 20 minutes north‐east from Gulgong and is situated near the villages of Ulan and Wollar. A further 30 minutes drive and you will find another two mines proposed for the Bylong Valley. More recently Charbon mine has begun operations and is located around 50 minutes south east of Mudgee in the Rylstone Kandos region. Coal mining near Dunedoo is also proposed. Silver mining is proposed for the nearby Lue village, and gold mining is occurring at nearby Hill End.

MUDGEE TOURISM

The Mudgee region is surrounded by magnificent national parks, nature reserves and world heritage listed bushland including Wollemi National Park, Dunn’s Swamp, Munghorn Gap Reserve and Goulburn River National Park and makes the Mudgee district an ideal destination for tourists. Adding to that are a range of leisurely activities such as wine tasting, golf, bushwalking, star gazing, gallery hopping, boutique shopping, beer tasting, canoeing, bike riding, honey tasting or visiting Saturday markets, all of which attracts a great number of both local and international tourists.
